Breaking Down The Barriers

Keeping Track

The images show different techniques both at the time of shooting them and after the processing. I used two different types of DSLR in the shoots There was standard, macro, abstract, wide-angle, studio and movement in the capturing of the images.  In processing, there were layers used to create sharper images throughout.

For some time I was considering how to shoot this project, I travelled to different places to get the results I wanted.

Using a day trip to Rockfield studios, I thought I could capture some images for this project.  My love of music is something that helps me through dark days.

Staying in Freddie Mercury’s apartment I took a selection of photographs, which I did not use however one of the pianos which he used to compose “Bohemian Rhapsody I did.  This was captured using depth of field techniques.  The brick wall outside used by Oasis as “Wonderwall” I also shot as a complete in focus photograph

Arriving at this venue it was a dry day but a little windy.  The images were mostly captured outside and handheld rather than using a tripod.  These sets of images were based on industry.  I varied my settings according to suit and no flash was used as the light availability was very good.

It took around an hour to get here from where I live. The first impression was a wow moment. Being the place where Fox Talbot lived was a moment I will never forget.  To capture the inside images, I did not use a flash however I did adjust my settings such as my aperture, shutter speed and iso according.  It was dark and shadowy, meaning I would have to expose the foreground on taking the first image, then do the same but with the background.  This was to be layered in photoshop after, giving it a sharp image all the way through the image after.

All the shots in this series of images were hand held.

When taking a photograph of the sundial, I did have to ask for a chair as I am not the tallest person in the world, and I was not getting the result I wanted at the beginning of the shoot.  After multiple attempts, I finally captured the image I wanted.

I chose to use both macro and 50mm lenses in this shoot for the butterflies.  I did find however on going into the butterfly farm my macro lens steamed up straight away, using the 50mm.  I used a hand held method on this shoot as the butterflies were too quick!

f 1:8 worked much better.  It was extremely hot, and I was melting.  Honestly, it took a lot of patience and I need more practice. This was not an easy shoot to do. Through enjoyed it though.

The maze was just next door to the butterfly farm.  There was a platform above it, this made it easy to get the shot I wanted. At this point, I changed my lens to wide-angle so I could create the photograph I wanted.
